Is Diet Soda Impacting Your Mental Health?

A recent study conducted by researchers at Florida State University College has linked aspartame, an artificial sweetener found in diet drinks, to increased anxiety-like behaviors in mice. One really startling finding was that these effects were passed down to the next 2 generations of mice!

Previous studies have also linked aspartame intake with depression and weight gain, so it is our recommendation to avoid diet sodas as much as possible!

We love teaching clients that there are healthier (and still yummy :)) alternatives to regular and diet sodas! Our general recommendation is to opt for lightly sweetened teas or beverages (less than 15 grams of total sugar), or beverages sweetened with stevia. We would be happy to provide anyone interested with a list of our favorite products and where to find them!
